Is there any help available for teenage children who suffer from Aspergers Syndrome. My seventeen year old daughter was diagnosed at age three and while she was at school received help through an education statement. She coped very well and the statement was removed. However she is finding it difficult to cope with the changes imposed on her now that she has left school and I feel my contibution is not adequate to help her deal with the situation she finds herself in. She feels unable to cope with intimate/social relationships and understand what behaviour is required of her. The teenage years are always pretty traumatic but for Aspergers sufferers the confusion and isolation appears to be compounded.

Dear Lynn, Thank you for contacting Mother@Work. We are sorry to hear that your daughter is having difficulties at the moment, leaving school is a hard transition for most children so must be difficult for her as well. As mothers, we can only guess at the feelings you must be having right now as well and wish you all the best as you cope with this situation. We have had a look for some websites for you and though we can't be held responsible for the contents, the following two did seem to be helpful. one is the national site which I'm sure you are aware of that you may be able to contact other parents through and the other is a page with many links to sites, including some specifically for parents, that you may find usueful as well. I hope this is a useful start for you. The websites are: http://www.nas.org.uk http://www.healthcentre.org.uk/hc/pages/autism.htm Kind regards, Denise Tyler
