Bullying in the workplace Career Direction Finance Flexible Working Rights Guilty Feelings Medical Parent - Child Relationships Part Time Work problems Pregnancy and Maternity Leave Returning to Work Taking Time Off for Dependants Time Management Work Life Balance Returning to Work I left my secretarial job in 2004 to have my first baby. I handed in my resignation, and started thinking about going back out to work when baby was 8 months old. I then found out I was pregnant. My second is now 6 months and I'm thinking of returning to a part time job. I am unsure what wording to use to explain my 2 year abscence from working. Is there anything I can do to compensate for this eg do a few temp jobs. Thank you. Dear J (don't know the rest of your name!)
I really don't think there is a problem to account for time spent at home with your family. If you are thinking about your CV you could just put: 2004 - 2006 Career break for family reasons or Time out to care for family or Full-time mother and homemaker or something along those lines to account for time away from work. Prospective employers will want to know what you have been doing so there are no gaps which cannot be accounted for. Time out for children is perfectly acceptable. Temping can be a good way back but you may not need that if you just state what you have been doing. Do hope this is helpful and that you are able to get something which fits in with your new life. Good luck! Regards Diana Wolfin www.changingdirection.com |
