Campaign Coordinators are asking schools to build healthy hearts across the UK for this year’s International Walk to School Week. The Walk to School campaign 2005 is focusing on the reasons why walking to school on a regular basis is such a great way of keeping fit – for both children and adults. During International Walk to School Week we would like as many schools as possible to join together to encourage more parents and pupils to leave the car at home and walk to school. The theme of Walk to School Week in October is ‘Walk to School: It’s good for the heart’. We are asking schools across the country to help us to build healthy hearts across the country by walking to school. On Monday 3rd October 2005, can your school ask the children who have walked to school to stand in a heart shape in our playground or school hall? NEWS - Sept 1 - The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) concluded an advert for breakfast cereal "Shreddies" was misleading and should not be broadcast again in its current form. The television advert for Cereal Partners UK, the makers of "Shreddies", exaggerated the relevance of "studies" into the benefits the cereal provided for children. The ad showed a teacher with a class of children, followed by shots of the children having breakfast with a voiceover saying: "Studies show a breakfast like Shreddies helps give kids the mental energy they need to stay involved at school". The ASA said there was only one piece of evidence to back the claim, based on a study of 29 children who ate Shreddies, another cereal, an orange-flavoured drink or nothing.
